After 2 years he got his vehicle back, only because he filed a lawsuit. During those 2 years he was never able to get a hearing, still had to make car payments, pay the insurance and keep it registered and get another vehicle. His case worked its way through the courts.

The Supreme Court refused to hear his case, basically saying it was okay for the gov't to take your property and deny you due process. Most people never get their property back.
