AT LEAST I TRIED

The Lord looked down towards his feet,
And acolytes were few,
Evil men departed,
Perhaps best start anew?
But only after chaos,
And bad men do repent,
Until that very moment,
It seemed His strength was spent.

Betrayed by Church’s elders,
The world of want on fire,
Hate and greed and war unleashed,
Seemed mankind’s sole desire,
No one listened, no one thought,
As God’s creation came to nought,
Filled with hate men fought and lied,
God sighed to all, ‘at least I tried’.
